Directorate History and Forward

The Directorate of International Collaboration and Linkages, Nnamdi Azikiwe University was established on the 3rd of October, 2009 in line with the National Universities Commission’s directives with the mandate of establishing bilateral relationship with other institutions within and outside Nigeria, to create a database of all the foreign students in the university, provide opportunities that will help the university to establish international standard in academic programs, organize exchange programmes and hold cultural exchange between the staff and students of our university and other universities and to link different fellowship programmes including post-doctoral programmes.

Since its inception, the Directorate has evolved through numerous Directors with Prof. Emeka Ezeonu (Professor of Biochemistry, 2009-2010) as the pioneer Director followed by Prof. Oliver Onyali (Professor of Parasitology & Entomology, 2010-2012); Prof. Ken. Nworgu (Professor of Law, 2012-2014); Prof. Onyiora Igwebuike Victor (Professor of Pathology, 2014-2019); and currently Prof. Ifeoma Bessie Enweani-Nwokelo (Professor of Medical Microbiology, 2019 till date), with Dr. Sunday O. Nduka of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences as the Deputy.

The Directorate have been active with contacts, linkages and collaborative proposals with various institutions and agencies in different parts of the world. Consequently, we signed some Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with different institutions across the globe in various areas including staff and students exchange programmes, fellowships, scholarships, joint postgraduate programmes and development of joint scientific research, including holding international workshops.

The Directorate is also saddled with the responsibility of organizing and promoting the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Debate Club, an assignment it accepted with great commitment.

To establish, promote and maintain partnership and bilateral relationship with other institutions both within and outside Nigeria with a view to achieving a world class university standard.
